Watching Downton Abbey brought to mind its predecessor in the 1970s, Upstairs Downstairs. Recently Fred and I watched the whole series in order. Then we decided to watch the 2010-2012 revival. This series only lasted for two years because it was up against Downton Abbey.
During the second episode a maid is having an asthma attack. She is in her room trying to clear her head by sitting next to a steaming kettle. She shares the bedroom with a younger maid who likes to put magazine clippings on her wall.
Much to my surprise, there was Robert Taylor on the wall. It reminded me of a famous quotation: “1936 will go on record as the year of Edward VIII, the Spanish Civil War and Robert Taylor.” London Observer. The photo nails the date of the episode as 1936.
